Different Types of Kisses in the Kama Sutra Tradition

The Kama Sutra is remembered mainly as a book of sex positions, but the text also discusses courtship, touch and kissing. Its broader message is that erotic connection begins long before intercourse.

Gentle introductory kisses

Soft, brief kisses can build anticipation and are often more effective than immediately turning every kiss into an intense make-out session.

Playful and teasing kisses

Pausing, pulling away, brushing the lips or changing pressure can turn kissing into a form of teasing.

Deeper kisses

As arousal grows, partners may use more pressure, open-mouth kissing or tongue. Rhythm matters more than force.

Kissing beyond the mouth

The neck, shoulders, chest and other sensitive areas can become part of the same progression. The best locations differ from person to person.
