Can Libido Increase During Quarantine or Isolation?
Periods of isolation can affect sexual desire in opposite ways. Some people lose interest because of stress, anxiety or low mood, while others notice a stronger libido because they have more time, boredom or a greater need for comfort and connection.
Stress does not affect everyone the same way
For some, stress suppresses arousal. For others, sex and masturbation become a way to relax or escape routine.
More time can mean more sexual attention
Working from home or spending more time with a partner can create new opportunities for intimacy. Singles may turn more toward sexting, porn, dating apps or solo sex.
Relationship pressure can also reduce desire
Being together constantly does not automatically improve sex. Lack of privacy, conflict and fatigue can have the opposite effect.
There was never one universal “quarantine libido.” The bigger lesson is that sexual desire is highly sensitive to context, mood and relationship dynamics.
